9:00      Departing from your hotel.

9:30      Walking the colorful Mai Chau local market.

Mai Chau Town Market (Weekend): Located in the center, this market is active Saturday and Sunday from early morning to early afternoon. It is the best place for browsing colorful, authentic textiles and crafts. Best known for selling handmade brocade textiles, traditional costumes, and local agricultural products

10:30     Walking to Van Village, 1 km from the town center, is a village where the White Thai people concentrate. Visitors to Van Village experience the simple daily life of the local residents, mainly engaged in rice cultivation, farming, and skilled crafts like weaving and embroidery. A notable attraction in Van Village is the Ethnic Museum within the village.

The Thai Museum (also known as the Van Village Museum) in Mai Chau is a private collection located in the Culture House of Van Village, featuring hundred of artifacts from the White Thai ethnic group. Collected over 10 years, it displays traditional items including tools, jewelry, and textiles. The museum houses a wide array of old objects, such as: Household items - Old looms, wooden and bamboo baskets, and blankets. Tools and weapons – Various farming tools and flint guns. Jewelry & Personal items – Silver coins, necklaces, earings, and jewelry cases. It provides insight into the daily life, history, and craftmanship of the White Thai people in the region. The museum is a crucila stop for understanding the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic minority groups in the Mai Chau Valley.

Mai Chau Rice Wine Tasting at the Museum

Mai Chau is reknowned for traditional rice wine, particularly the potent Mai wine, a White Thai specialty made from rice, forest leaves, and wild ginger. Visitors can explore varied selections, including fruity, artisan-distilled options.

11:30    OC Cake Tasting: Walking to Cuong Homestay for tasting the traditional OC Sticky Rice Cakes served in 5 different colours. Sticky rice is probably Mai Chau’s most eye-catching dish. The ethnic Thai people skillfully use natural materials to create vibrant dyes like gac fruit or beetroot for deep reds and oranges and pandan leaves for pale greens. If you squeeze a handful of sticky rice, you’ll find that the grains are tender yet firm and glossy without sticking to your hands.

Refreshments and shopping for local traditional handicrafts.

12:30    Lunch at the Museum – A typical Mai Chau White Thai meal: Ex:  Mai Chau-style grilled pork, Grilled freshwater fish, Grilled free-range chicken, Bamboo rice, Mountain snails and Salted, pickled meat.

End of tour: After lunch, you can walk or hire an electric car to go back to your hotel.
